Hi all. I'm pretty new to hiking au natural, but I find I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It has been a rainy winter in southern California, but there's usually a warmer day or two between storms which all...

A good mud run/hike is always fun. I spent a few hours on Monday in the rain and mud on the trail. It was really great fun.

Nice hearing you been out and are enjoying hiking the best way you can do it Steve. I was out last Thursday here, temperatures around 28C (82F) but it was pleasant as most of the walk was through the shade of the bush. Coming into Autumn now I will be walking in temperatures lower generally, and h...

Anyone here from the Glendale, Burbank, Pasadena area interested in hikes in the National Forest above Glendale? I have been hiking there many times, and during the week the trails are mostly deserted...

I'm a local hiker from Santa Clarita. I do most of my nude hiking in and around the Sespe Wilderness. This is not the right time of year for it tho. I like my nude hikes at least in the upper 60s and not raining. Smile

I'm local hiker in the Calabasas area. I must admit that a muddy trail run in the rain is always fun too! (takes me back to childhood puddle stomping ;-)

Are there any trails in the Calabasas area that are suitable for nude hiking?

I am not familiar with the Calabasas area. My stomping grounds start about 30 miles due north. Lots of suitable trails for being unsuited.

That sounds interesting. This year should be a spectacular display after so many years of drought. However during wildflower season there are usually lots of wildflower seekers.

Yes, typically AANR is the Devil, that only promotes "Clubs & Resorts" that feed it monetarily, so it has NO love for free hiking or beach Naturists Unhappy

Last Saturday went hiking out to Deep Creek Hot Springs.

There are two ways to get there. One starts at the Mojave Forks Dam and heads upstream along the Pacific Crest Trail about 6 miles. (I did that route a couple years ago.)

The other starts at Bowen's Ranch and drops about 900 feet over about 2 miles. (It has two rather steep sections that - for me - required multiple rest stops.) This is the route most people take because it is shorter and you can park and camp at the trailhead with little risk of your car getting broken into. Costs $5 a head for a day-trip and $10 for overnights. Used to be a way to go down from Lake Arrowhead but that is closed due to a forest fire.

The trip to Bowen's Ranch itself is a bit of an adventure in route finding down washboard gravel roads, but if you stick "6139 Bowen Ranch Rd, Apple Valley, CA 92308" in your navigator you should not have any problem.

It was cold and windy when we got to the parking area at 10:00 am (48 F). At the bottom of the canyon, it was warmer and not so much wind. Finally, it climbed into the 60s later in the day. To get to the hot springs, you have to cross Deep Creek itself. It is only knee deep where you want to cross but probably about 40 F, so you really notice it. Other parts of the creek around the hot springs are deep enough to dive in.

I'd like to try one of the longer trails next time. But I completely agree, it's a great spot!

Maybe I'll try to get this on the SCNA calendar. We'd need someone to lead who knows the trail.

You can also come up the PCT from Lake Arrowhead from the opposite direction. Haven't tried that route yet. It has been closed for some time due to fire damage but it is now open for hiking only, no camping and no livestock.
