An immense amount of work was done by Clarisse and Pascal.
This looks like the start of the first hike - directly from the house.

I have uploaded the GPS traces of all this years walks to Google Maps. Over the coming days I'll add some photos pinned to the appropriate places.

You can view the map here: https://www.google.com/maps...

Hey, I don't know if this is your thing, but if any of you remember some nice anecdotes or quotes or remarks made during the NEWT this year, let's share them here!

From a man on a mountain bike, on our last day of hiking (In German, which I don't understand):
"words words words kinder words words verboten words words words Tirol words words..."
Could be "This is forbidden here in the Tirol, think of the children..."

He took our picture with his phone and said he'...

Maarten's evening talk included the well-known phrase "the same procedure as every year" which, of course, applies to NEWT as much as to Miss Sophie and James.

[Anyone unfamiliar with the Continental popularity of the sketch "Dinner for One" may enjoy it via YouTube].

Oh yeah? Well, I say it looked like this!
Patrick Thompson is online.
To my eyes that looks like a lot of people damaging a tree! It surely can't be meant to look so beaten & forlorn?

It's a hunter's stand, very common in Austria and Germany. We merely visited; if there was damage to the tree, it wasn't done by us. But given the number of huge firewood piles we passed, it's clear that the local attitude is that trees are there to be used!

hi Evelina, it sounded like you all had a great time! Thumbs-up

As far as photo-sharing goes, I assume Pascal and Roland have something in mind. Naturally I can provide the same FTP service as always, here. I'd rather wait for Pascal's feedback first though, in case I confuse people unnecessarily Wink

There is not only a ladder but also a tiny hut in the top of the tree. It looks out over the valley. It's purpose? Maybee hunting or spotting wildfires and naked hikers Smile

Ho Ho Ho!!! I bet you didn't do this when you were in Lucerne. This is what I did last year at one of the restaurants with a lovely view of Chapel Bridge. Like you, I was on my way to NEWT 2016 then. Looking forward to meeting you and your friends.
