Is there such a thing as "the right to not be offended"?
Bertrand Russell maintained that a liberal democracy had a DUTY to be offended
from time to time. Being offended was part of what made democracy work and is
a core value of the concept. The potential to offend, and for people to have
the choice as to their being offended, or not, is a core democratic principle.
