It was April when the four of us met at the Railway station of Aschau in the Chiemgaus region of Bavaria. Alex (taxi driver), Bernhard (lorry driver), Jochen (airplay pilot instructor), and myself (software programmer). A long and steady trail through the forest, out into the open above the treeline. We had blue skies with puffy white clouds to take the bite from the sun, nearly perfect walking weather. Onwards again until we reached the pass where the sadly dilapidating hut sits, and on along the fine ridge with excellent views on both sides of us. We met a path repairman, and 4 students coming off the summit, another hiker and the horse-shepherd lighting his fire for the evening at the lower hut. A trundle back the way we came, re-engaging us with the scenery this time from the other direction, a novel experience for someone used to circular walks. Gorgeous views, super terrain, good company, easy walking, stunning scenery. We'll be back!
