My First Nudist Experience

My first real nudist experience was in 1994 when I went to a nudist
resort because I wanted to go skinny-dipping like I used to at the
YMCA before it went co-ed and required bathing suits.

As a child I had been taught that one did not go around in front of
other people without clothes on. Changing in locker rooms was ok as
was swimming nude with other males, but in mixed company certain body
parts should be covered.

As I was not sure how I could be comfortable nude in front of other
people for an extended period of time for no reason at all I practiced
by going around my home nude even when I did not have to be.

When I arrived at the resort I was met by a nude man in the office who
registered me and gave me the information on the resort. I was then
directed to a parking lot where I was met by another nude man who was
going to give me a tour of the place. I undressed before the tour
because even though no one knew me, I was not going to embarrass
myself in public by looking out of place.

My tour ended at the lake and because my reason for going there was so
I could swim nude I went into the water.

Later I took a short walk on my own. As I passed other people a smile
and “Hello” was in order, the lack of clothing was of no significance.

I returned to the lake for more swimming and sunning.

Before going home I took a warm shower in the round building that
housed the showers. As the shower and adjoining hot tub made the
drying area humid, I went outside. That did it for me. I was dried by
the gentle breeze and the warm sun. That convinced me that this was
how we were meant to be. There was nothing disgraceful about being
nude. I completed the remaining visits and interviews as soon as I
could and became a member.

Little did I know at that time how much I would enjoy the comfort of
being nude. Since that visit I have joined a number of other nudist
organizations, attended a lot of nudist festivals, gatherings and
other events. I have been on a number of nude cruises and now live in
a clothing optional community where I can be nude all the time except
when it is too cold to be nude or I am going into town.

  1. Your second paragraph is similar to what I was taught about nudity. Showing "privates" is okay and expected with other males in locker rooms and showers, but never in mixed company. I have always been nude when possible, but I wasn't a social nudist. I had been wanting to try nudism for a long time. I went to the closest resort in June 2014 two days after my 66th birthday. One of the owners, a nude lady, showed me around and introduced me to a female member who lived there. I met her husband and many other friendly people. I visited for a few hours, went on the nature trail, swam, sunbathed and watched people play volleyball in the pool for a few hours. I realized I was definitely a nudist. I joined The Naturist Society soon after that first visit and AANR earlier this year. In addition to being nude on my own property and visiting the resorts in this area, I'd like to travel with one or more other nudists and maybe go on a nude cruise someday.
