Neighbors complain about Florida man doing yard work naked, police say it is legal

Neighbors complain about Florida man doing yard work naked, police say it is legal by JESSIE KARANGU, Circa Wednesday, September 19th 2018 Photo: Pixabay via MGN Online WASHINGTON (Circa) β€” Neighbors in Stuart, Florida, are irritated with their fellow resident who has been doing yard work in the nude. “I came out Sunday night to put the trash out, and I look over and he is bent over, winding up his hose, and I’m like that is my view of the neighborhood,” Melissa Ny, a neighbor, told WPBF-TV. “He works on his car, and he does it naked and everyone has called the police, he is just out there doing his yard work, whatever he needs to do outside, naked.” Another neighbor believes the man should have some respect for children who live in the area. “Kids catch the bus here. It’s wrong,” neighbor Charlie Estes told WPBF-TV. But police say they can’t do anything about it. As long as the man isn’t touching himself inappropriately, police can’t tell the man to put his clothes on because he is on his own property. “I have seen these people stand on their front step, buck naked, both of them, and talk to a police officer, sheriff department. The sheriff’s department told me to turn my head,” Estes said. WPBF-TV asked for an interview with the man, but he declined because he says he is a very private person.

  1. Sorry, I hit post too quickly. The original article went into a little more depth and said the county Sheriff’s department was considering charging him with lewd and lascivious behavior. Ergo, the question on the first post I did.

  2. The news story interviewed a young woman with children who catch the school bus there. She said she has no problem with the man being naked or whatever. Its the old childless woman who complained.

My home state, WA, has similar laws. Naked is not illegal by law and court decision. Sexual behavior while naked is illegal only if it knowingly will cause someone to be alarmed. Lots of the US is like that.

    • I spend my summers in Twisp WA. The folks who own the farm my RV is parked on don’t seem to mind me sunning or doing yard work around the place. Even offered the use of the hammock on their front porch. The house in town is a little less inviting. Maybe a fence this summer so I can play with the dog πŸ˜‰

  3. I’ve checked for my home state and everything I read seems to indicate that they CAN tell you to either get dressed or go inside, and will likely let you off with a warning unless you are a frequent offender. I go out in my Speedos, and I’m pretty sure I offend with those, let alone in the buff.
