Enough is enough

March 27, 2020 in Political

Reality is beyond imagination. After writing my last post (The right over our body) I went to the supermarket (500 m away). At the entrance, a corridor led me to a checkpoint where a security man measured fever to other customers by pointing a digital infrared thermometer on the forehead. That was the straw that broke the camel’s back: I took off my gloves and headed for the exit. Another agent wanted to reassure me: “it is a disposition of the Lombardy Region”, and I immediately answered: “Exactly! It’s not from the government!”

The right over our body

March 27, 2020 in Environmental

This pandemic is changing our lives. And it’s a choice we wouldn’t want. First, because they didn’t ask us for anything, and with the mean of terror and sanctions, they have cornered us. But with this, they have revealed what “power” really is. The most major threat is the seizure of our bodies:
1) being confined in the house
2) not being able to move freely (we need a self-certification to by apples)
3) maintaining social distance
4) looking suspiciously at our neighbours, the people we meet, as if they were possible enemies
5) the use of extravagant, if not harmful, hygiene rules, such as the use of masks.
Later on, there will probably be a mandatory vaccine.
The control becomes capillary in small villages like mine. Drones have started to be used to check if someone is out of the house (violating one of the basic rules of the use of drones, namely the prohibition to fly over people).
They probably use the location of mobile phones to control our movements.
So I think something important is changing in our democracies (if it still makes sense to use this word).
Another point: 6) they are depriving us of human contact.
And this is detrimental to both physical and mental health.
I took this picture a few days ago, on March 11th.
Taking away our contact with other people and nature is the most serious point. And it will have significant damage to our health and mental balance.
Dogs have more rights than we do: you can go out and let the dog walk, but you are a person (and therefore you can rationally understand and cooperate 🙂 you cannot go out.

Sunday morning

March 22, 2020 in Environmental

In a recent post of mine, I said that on the streets you could walk naked because there are no cars, there are no passers-by. Usually, on Sunday morning this road was very busy: cars, cyclists, people taking a walk, families enjoying the day off. This morning the road in front of my house looked like this. As a precautionary measure imposed by the government and the Lombardy Region, I could not go out. In essence, they recommended us to stay at home, to use masks. I’ would have piled up a bundle of fines!

Health-giving nature

March 18, 2020 in Environmental, Lifestyle

These are great days! There is a silence that seems to have dilated perception; there is no longer the background noise of traffic. Everyone is retired indoors, while their health is outside, in the open air, breathing oxygen, moving around, feeling the warmth of the sun after winter. Nature is a healer, it has no side effects if not beneficial. You can see how we are a virus to nature. I go out for my tour early in the morning, when the sun comes up I am already in the countryside, on the near hill or in the nature reserve. Every time I meet someone, but it’s rare. Nature goes on anyway. Now the plants of the Prunus genus are losing their flowers and putting on the first leaves, but you already notice the peach trees, with their beautiful pink colour. The fresh air sneaks under my clothes, refreshes my skin; as it suggested me to undress, which is not so cold any more: with the sun and 15°C, one can be naked and perceive not only with eyes and ears, but with all the surface of his body. And to hell with all the §§ of law and fears and shame. Nature seeks me out, offers me well-being, opens my lungs, caresses my skin, draws the eye to its thousand wonders. And I walk safely, nature doesn’t need to be sanitized. It is our main health-giver

I don’t want to believe

March 14, 2020 in Environmental

This morning at 7 a.m., leaving for my usual tour, I read a notice that even the children’s playground was closed. I don’t know if the situation is *really* serious or if it’s getting worse under any pretext. The only defensive weapon I have is to ignore the news, don’t scare by myself, don’t feel like I’m under house arrest, don’t feel like I’m in a pressure cooker.

Spring is going on, nature is getting more and more beautiful, my eyes shine for admiration.
The scaremongering about the new pandemic and the indecent media campaign only makes me suspect that something else is working, that the flu and the government alone would not be able to bring a nation to its knees. And the more negative the news is, the more pessimists seem happy because they agree with each other. Now, I think only virologists know life, death and miracles of this virus. But for us, it’s something very hazy and ultimately unclear. In order to trigger an active reaction from us, we need a springboard: to believe it, to believe what we are told, to believe that it is all true because otherwise schools, churches, shops, factories would not be closed. It’s like with UFOs and extraterrestrials: someone believes it, someone else doesn’t. Those who believe accumulate evidence of their existence; those who don’t even believe this “evidence”. The slogan of those who believe is “I want to believe”. And I think it is this “will to believe” that has called them to existence. They represent an alternative to the picture in which they live, an escape route, a secret weapon of survival: “take me!”

The coverage of the news is itself alarming, rather than its content. And suspicious as I am, (as far as I know, and I can check the virus could be actually in the masks) I think they are covering up some unclear manoeuvres, that will change the situation of Italy and the Italians. I too have created a slogan for myself: if I am to be a sheep, I want to be black.

🙂 the streets are so empty that you could walk around naked 🙂

Povera Italia – Report from a ghost country

March 11, 2020 in Environmental

Lombardy and Veneto, the two regions most affected by the flu, are in an emergency situation, almost a health curfew. Schools, libraries, cinemas and museums are closed, as are restaurants, concert-hall, no lectures (this is the third week and will last at least until April 3). Masses are celebrated behind closed doors, at funerals (and this is the most pitiful thing) only the closest family members can attend. In the supermarket supplies are scarce; it is compulsory to sanitize your hands before entering and use plastic gloves for shopping. This has been ordered by a government decree. Newspapers and news reports talk about nothing else and feed phobias and psychosis. Few cars on the streets, so much so that you could play football, few people on the streets, you don’t enter the shops more than three at a time, but there is no need to warn: people are locked indoors. Government order.
Even today I did not give up my daily exit was 6:45. Nature gives a damn about the flu, she doesn’t die, she doesn’t kill anyone. On the contrary, these very days, with rain and sun, everything is in turmoil: leaves, buds, flowers. Perfumes and fine air. It’s a pleasure to be outside. I think it’s also healthy, that the oxygen in the air can burn all the viruses in this world. Nature is on our side, not against us: that’s why I think this virus is something unnatural, created in some laboratory. And in the meantime, someone takes advantage of it, sells you masks, gives you alarmist information, makes media terrorism. That’s probably the real virus.

A landscape

March 1, 2020 in Environmental

An oak tree, a vineyard, an olive grove, the white flowers of the shepherd’s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris), and then the peat bog, the lake, the island in the middle, Mount Guglielmo and on the right the monastery of St. Peter in Lamosa (= by the Swamp) … the clean air of a windy day, the sun that everything colours with light: this is my landscape. Naked I breathe this landscape, I want it to mould me; it seems motionless, but it is always changing. Many people use a car (myself), a hoe, a bulldozer and rule the territory… and clothes to signify belonging, conventions and fidelity. I don’t even want to touch what I see, I don’t even want to understand it. I only know that as nature makes grass grow (and grass cannot not grow), so will it do with me: it will make me grow new thoughts, put aside old categories, with which I/we tried to understand the world – one-way. There is nothing to understand. Leave it, open up, undress: nature is not hostile, it is not an enemy. It is inside us, much more than we believe or know.

Skinny-dipping in post-war Italy

February 26, 2020 in Book, Naktiv

I am reading “Croniche epifaniche” by the Italian songwriter Francesco Guccini (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Francesco_Guccini – born 1940). In this autobiographical book, he describes his childhood spent by his grandparents in the small town of Pàvana (in the province of Pistoia – N44°7’21”, E11°0’6″). The language is a mixture of popular Italian and dialect, not easy to read even for us. But it is worth reading because it is a description that evokes emotions and memories (most forgotten) linked to our own childhood. And I discovered some unexpected similarities between my childhood and his (but we are 13 years apart and more than 300 km.) On p. 13 of his book, he says: «You never go swimming, you go for a bath … Without a swimsuit, which is not necessary, the real bath is naked [he uses the word “gnudi”, like the Michelangelo’s “ignudi” in the Sistine Chapel), better if there are summer visitors around; the panties are allowed, never trunks [and he uses the word “slip” – a word we thought was English], and these, after the bath … will be dried first by beating it here and there with great force on a stone, then leaving it in the sun to dry, while we dry ourselves, and the older ones smoke cigarettes from a pocket of their trousers»

Bees and a blossoming cherry tree

February 21, 2020 in Environmental, Lifestyle

A blossoming cherry tree in this early spring: the first I saw this year – in competition with almond trees. Even the bees, with the midday sun, awoke and are at work. Is it all just heat, just chemistry, stimulus-response, action-reaction? Ah, how poor our words sound!
Just as clothes are a means to convey a meaning, so the nudity of the body (stripped of shame) and of the mind (stripped of psychological subjugation) is a door to access messages unexpressed with words, but it is working, active & factive, that ferment and leaven inside us and in our way of life…

Daily wonders keep my eyes open

When other see me naked

February 19, 2020 in Philosophy

On the subject «if you dare they don’t care».
Towards the end of November it rained a lot, the path was filled with water. The strange fact, together with the particular incidence of light and the colour of the autumn leaves created a vision of a certain suggestion. I set my tripod and undress for my usual selfie. Going for the pose, I see a young woman arrive; I continued quietly with my photo. As soon as she saw me she stopped, I think 1) because she didn’t have the boots to continue in the puddle, 2) so as not to disturb the photo and 3) to see what was going on with that man walking naked along a flooded path. After taking the photo I got dressed and slowly the young woman went back on her footsteps. The path makes a wide circle: I met the young woman again, she recognized me, and we exchanged a smile of complicity.

Goat-willows are blossoming

February 13, 2020 in Environmental

Spring is coming fast, it already looks like mid-March, but it is still February. This morning the surprise of a goat-willow (Salix caprea) full of gems! Irresistible a stop for a photograph, as if I needed to anchor this moment of nature with me: as to say “I saw you, I noticed you, and I’m happy”. As to say that I feel in tune with you, in the same time&place, that we live and grow together, to the rhythm of the seasons…

Fog

February 11, 2020 in Uncategorized

We rarely get fog here on the lake two or three days a year. A little further south there is instead the great plain of Brescia and then the great Po Valley. The fog has a particular light, without shadows; it is like seeing the world and objects in a close-up, taking them out of the background. But the most beautiful sensation is the one that your body remembers (and a photo can remind you): drops of water falling from the branches, the moisture that enters the skin and gives the sense of your presence. There is no one around. I enjoy moments out of the world, out of time, out of people. And nudity is also a secondary thing… No, it helps to perceive the world, whether as they are and not as we know about.

Every weather is worth a hike

February 1, 2020 in Environmental

Pozza del Prefond (Monte Guglielmo – 45.779406, 10.119625)

Grey sky, a cold breeze, yet a nice hike, like ten days ago. Nature is not a sofa. The body knows nature that way, even in the grey, in the ice, even in the cold that runs through your body: it doesn’t want to challenge you, to force you to put on your clothes (as in Aesop’s fable https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_North_Wind_and_the_Sun): it wants you to know it, live.

Abano Baths

January 30, 2020 in Lifestyle

I found this postcard by chance. It’s dated 1953, the year I was born. It describes Abano Terme (until 1924 Abano bagni). The baths were known to the Romans. Nearby there was an important place of worship and an oracle. The postcard (coloured) reproduces a print of 1761 and comes from the book of abbot Domenico Vandelli (1691-1754), Tractatus de Thermis agri Patavini. Padua, Conzatti, 1761 (in Latin – a letter is inserted at the end, a dissertation dedicated to Linnaeus). On the left, you can see a group of people taking baths in hot water and they are completely naked. Vandelli was also a cartographer and invented the “contour lines” in cartography, so useful to all hikers. He designed the “Via Vandelli” that connects Modena to Massa (Tyrrhenian Sea), which is now a beautiful nature trail through the Apennines (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Via_Vandelli).

Monte Gugliemo

January 21, 2020 in Lifestyle, Naktiv

This morning I was on Monte Guglielmo, not far from home (45.778040, 10.129992). A beautiful day, a beautiful hike. Behind me the Alpi Orobie (Bergamo). Heading to the 13 Trees (le Tredici Piante).

Body-mind nakedness

January 15, 2020 in Philosophy

Body nakedness is a way to mind nakedness and vice versa. All the inner thin wibes we feel in our body when we are naked shake our thoughts. And even more, we can reach a state/place of thoughtlessness without fear, without shame: free from fear (law, society, neighbours…); free from shame (moral/social scheme, duties, slavery…).

Our mind – naked from social habits (from Latin hăbĭtŭs ‘style of dress’) – looks at the world (especially the natural world) in a way without convictions (again from Latin con + vinciō ‘fasten with bonds’), without previous opinions, bias, standardized thoughts, even scientific knowledge and patterns, but more direct, more close to the nature, so that we can see the wild world neither so strange nor so far from us. Normally we live in the ephemeral world of technology: machines are the way we move in the world… today: tomorrow we’ll have new ones, more sophisticated and farther from nature. Machines have their time; our sense of time is also changed, according to our machines: we live faster, getting the sense not have lived enough, year after year. Time in nature has no human measure nor rhythm, no goal to reach, nothing to achieve: time is a peaceful flow, a pacific stream. That’s my idea of body/mind nakedness.

Icy wind

January 13, 2020 in Environmental

You can’t see it, but at 9 there was an icy wind blowing over the pond. But I liked it: I was enjoying the brown of the reeds, against the blue of the water, the green on the fence guiding the gaze to me, the light and the shadow on my naked body. A few seconds in nature: my real presence allowed me to perceive the mild warmth of the sun and the whip of the wind: that also was nature. Not being so stupid to catch a cold, but enough to understand – through my body first – that nature is a whole: beautiful colours and landscape and unpleasant temperature and wind. So: every season has its reasons to perceive how nature really is. Our body knows it.

A new naturist-law in Abruzzi

August 1, 2013 in Uncategorized

Abruzzi (central-eastern Italy) have a new law on naturism, innovative and open-minded: «Naturism… is a healthy, natural and educational mode of life» (Art. 3.1)
See more (text in italian); http://www.sansalvoinpiazza.it/2013/07/30/approvat…

About educational values of naturism, read also the few lines of the "Relazione introduttiva": «Through naturism young people can grow up with a greater respect for their own bodies and those of others, they can develop a better awareness of their own sexuality, they can reach a fair and non-violent social behavior in relation to the body, the physical self and others. Naturism is a movement that aims to promote direct contact with nature, devoid of artifice and social conventions.»
«Attraverso il naturismo i giovani possono crescere con un maggior rispetto del proprio corpo e di quello degli altri, possono sviluppare una migliore consapevolezza della propria sessualità, possono addivenire ad un comportamento sociale corretto e non violento nei confronti del corpo, della fisicità propria ed altrui. Il naturismo è un movimento che si propone di promuovere un contatto diretto con la natura, privo di artificiosità e di convenzioni sociali.»
